Prawn Xacuti (Sha-cuti)

First get all your ingredients ready.

Ingredients:
• 30-40 medium size Prawns shelled and deveined
• Grated coconut – ½ cup
• Cinnamon stick – ½ inch
• 4 Cloves
• 4 Peppercorns
• 2 Cardamons
• Cinnamon stick – ½ inch

• 4 Peppercorns
• 3 dried red Chillies (Kashmiri)
• Poppy seeds – 1 tbsp
• Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
• Cooking Oil – 2-3 tsps
• 2 Medium size Onions finely chopped
• Ginger-Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
• Nutmeg powder – ½ tsp
• Vinegar – 2 tbsps
• Coriander powder – 1 tsp
• Cumin powder – 1 tsp
• Coriander leaves for garnishing – 2 tbsps
• Salt to taste – 1 ½ tsps

Now let’s get cooking!

First, play some Goan music in the background to get into the mood.

Place prawns in a bowl and add Salt and Turmeric powder. Mix well and set aside.
• Heat 1 tbsp Oil in a non-stick pan
• Add the Cinnamon stick, Cloves, Peppercorns, Cardamoms and Poppy seeds. Sauté for a minute.
• Add grated Coconut and sauté further for a minute
• Cool and grind, with sufficient water, to a coarse paste
• Heat remaining Oil in a cooking vessel
• To this add the chopped Onions and sauté till translucent
• Add Ginger-Garlic paste and sauté further for a minute
• Add the ground paste and sauté for 2-3 minutes
• Add the marinated Prawns and cook for 2-3 minutes
• Add the Coriander, Cumin powders and mix well
• Add ½ cup Water, mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes
• Add Nutmeg powder and Vinegar and stir
• Finally garnish with Coriander leaves

Serve hot over steamed Rice. Enjoy!
